Several things we learned form the public records regarding the De Anza Bike Lane Project:
- It’s not true that the Council approved the lane reduction.
- Only two councilmembers, Kitty Moore and Liang Chao really care about residents.
- Many residents urged the city to engage the broader community on this critical project.
- Two council candidates Rod Sink and Claudio Bono strongly support current proposal and urged our city to expedite the project’s launch. Rod Sinks cares about his ebike more than the concerns of many residents.
Many residents attended the September 12 community meeting about the De Anza bike lane project feeling frustrated, as their voices and the online petition were completely overlooked.
Here is the details:
- It’s not true that the Council approved the lane reduction. They only approved the funding to address bike rider safety issue on the De Anza Blvd, which may have various solutions. The truth is that city council were not formally informed about the lane reduction for motor vehicles.
- Only two councilmembers, Kitty Moore and Liang Chao really care about residents. They responded to residents’ letters, encouraged them to get involved. They even advocated for a public meeting to address the issue. However, due to the current mayor’s weak leadership, only an informational session to announce the decision was approved. - Many residents urged the city to engage the broader community on this critical project, which could significantly impact daily life. They proposed some creative ideas to assess potential traffic impact before the project officially begins. However, all their suggestions were ignored. They don’t have hidden political agenda as Rod Sinks claimed in his smear letter. [pdf-embedder url=”https://ssu.mia.mybluehost.me/website_2af476cb/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/ResidentLetters.pdf”]
- Rod Sinks and Claudios Bono supported the project and urged the city to expedite the project’s launch, despite requests from many residents for more traffic study. Rod Sinks prioritizes his own ebike over the concerns of many residents. Bono claimed that reducing roadway capacity will reduce VMT. Generally, no transportation analysis is needed for such project.
Actually, Kitty Moore also likes biking. At city events promoting biking and environmental awareness, she was the only council member who rode a bike and hit the longest trail option. However, she values community input on specific projects and will never judge city issues solely based on her own interests.
