Dear Cupertino Chinese voters,
The November election is approaching—are you ready to vote? We would like to introduce two city council candidates who can safeguard the interests of our community: Ray Wang and Kitty Moore. Our city is located in the heart of Silicon Valley and is known for its excellent school districts, making it a prosperous and thriving middle-class area. Balancing support for urban development while preserving the unique character of our community requires business experience, political insight, and a genuine commitment to the community. Ray Wang embodies these qualities as an outstanding candidate.
~~~ Ray Wang ~~~
Ray Wang is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and has become a successful figure in the high-tech industry, recognized as a renowned investment and financial expert. He frequently appears as an honored guest on national mainstream media and at major economic forums. His deep understanding of the economy, particularly his analysis of the trends in Silicon Valley’s tech sector, has earned him respect and recognition in mainstream society, making him a true “Chinese star” shining across the U.S. Despite his personal career success, he remains dedicated to the community, aiming to apply his profound understanding of economic operations to benefit our city’s functioning.
As a second-generation Chinese American, Ray fully understands the experiences of his parents who came to the U.S. to study. He knows that after working diligently to earn their master’s and doctoral degrees, they ultimately achieved the “American Dream.” Many local Chinese friends have also come here in pursuit of their dreams. Ray remains grounded and recognizes that the pathway to success for most Chinese Americans lies in a strong emphasis on education. This is why he has consistently focused on various social issues that are closely related to the interests of the Chinese community.
He participated in the campaign against California’s Prop 16 to advocate for equal rights for all races. In 2017, during the controversial CUSD curriculum incident that concerned Asian parents, he attended meetings with hundreds of parents to support Chinese school board members Liang Chao and Kristen Pan in their courageous efforts to protect the rights of students. In 2022, when the school district rushed to close schools without sufficient research, he strongly backed local school board members Jerry Liu and Satheesh, using data to argue against the closures. Due to Ray’s continuous dedication and concern for the community over the years, several prominent Chinese officials and community leaders have praised him and strongly support his candidacy for the city council this year, including:
- Darcy Paul, elected with the highest votes to Cupertino city council in 2018, served as mayor three times.
- Liang Chao, elected with the highest votes to the CUSD school board in 2016, currently serves as Cupertino city council member.
- Jerry Liu, elected with the highest votes to the CUSD school board in 2022, current chair of the CUSD board.
- Patrick Kwok, a former mayor, was elected city council member in 2002 with the highest votes.
Many of these individuals have not only similar political views as Ray but have also been friends for over a decade and fully trust his character and dedication. This year, they strongly urge the Chinese community to unite and vote to support Ray Wang!
Ray Wang has also served as the chair of the Cupertino Planning Commission. Throughout his tenure, he has been concerned about urban development and is very worried about the various issues arising from the current city council being dominated by developers. He has repeatedly spoken out against the injustices in city construction projects, such as: a lack of transparency in major decisions, misleading the public with falsehoods, suppressing the voices of residents, secretly amending city regulations to favor large developers, and placing the interests of small businesses and citizens at risk of being sacrificed. He has also criticized certain city council members for refusing to abandon the $80 million new city hall project while continually reducing services for residents. His outspoken advocacy has earned him the heartfelt support of many citizens, but it has also made him a target for developers and certain entrenched interest groups.
This year, the Chinese community in California is particularly focused on Proposition 36, which aims to amend California’s Prop 47 law. Ray Wang actively supported this initiative earlier in the year by gathering signatures and donating to fund “Yes on 36” campaign yard signs. He understands that encouraging a culture of lawfulness in society and strengthening efforts to combat theft, car break-ins, and drug abuse are vital concerns for the Chinese community. Among the seven city council candidates in Cupertino this year, only Ray Wang and Kitty Moore dare to publicly support Yes on 36 and advocate for the voices of the people.
